Established in 2001, the Kampala International University (KIU) is a private, not-for-profit university in Uganda. Chattered status was awarded to the institution in 2009. The institute was ranked among the best universities in the world by the Times Higher Education in 2014. Students from the region are drawn to the KIU because of its high quality and affordable tuition fees. The school offers undergraduate and graduate programs in several disciplines and aims to provide students with a global perspective.
The KIU offers various undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Its main campus is located in Kansanga, about 3 km from the city centre and the shores of Lake Victoria. Another campus is located in Ishaka, Bushenyi district in western Uganda. The university also has branches in Kenya. The KIU main campus offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. The school offers part-time study, and it has a separate schedule for its Access Program and Health Sciences.
Distance learning is another popular option for students of the university. The KIU has realized that time may be a major challenge in attending the institution. The institution has designed a distance learning system, which offers specialized training in the country. This makes the university's distance-learning system an attractive option for those with limited time. The university's distance-learning program is also suited for working professionals, who may be too busy to attend classes in person.
KIU is a private university in Uganda that is home to three campuses. The western campus houses the main campus, where over 7,000 students attend classes. The eastern campus is home to the school of health sciences, one of seven medical schools in the country. It is the first private medical school in the country and offers undergraduate and post-graduate programmes. It has a hospital on campus with a capacity of 1,200 beds. It has several satellite centers in the southern and western regions of the country.
The Kampala International University Western campus is home to the School of Health Sciences, which is home to the Faculties of Biomedical Sciences, Clinical Medicine, and Pharmacy. The Eastern campus is the site of the KIU Teaching Hospital, a 700-bed facility. In addition to this, the school's western campus includes the KIU Constituent College, which is a division of KIU. Lastly, the university also maintains the KIU-KIU website, which offers information about the university's distance-learning programme.
In addition to its two campuses, KIU also maintains a branch in Dar es Salaam. It offers postgraduate and undergraduate degree programs. The KIU Distance Learning programme is ideal for people with limited time and a busy schedule. There is also a distance learning facility on campus for those who prefer to study online. In March 2009, Karooro Okurut wrote an article in New Vision about the KIU.
