Why You Should Not Use an Online Sample From Survey Panel Providers

Many online survey panel providers offer an online sample to their members. An online survey can be taken very easily through email or a link that can be forwarded to the survey respondent. This is why many survey panelists prefer to take their respondents' survey this way rather than conduct an in-person interview, and that they can save time, money, and resources. An in-person survey is usually a little expensive when compared to other online survey methods.

There are many survey panel providers who can send out an online survey via email. The email which contains the invitation links is sent to all the survey panelists who are subscribed to that particular provider's list. The list contains the names of those qualified respondents who agreed to participate in the survey panel research project. Most of the providers use a form letter to invite respondents, and then another mail containing a survey materials and a small note or information about the research was sent to the respondents.

When an online survey is sent, the respondent should immediately sign up if he or she has not agreed to the invitation. The sign up can also be done by providing answers to the questions included in the research study. However, most of the time the survey invitation arrives only hours after the submission of an online survey. Once the participant signed up, he or she should immediately check his or her email. Once that survey is received, the respondent should open it immediately to see if he or she is actually invited to participate in the research panel study.

Many Online Sample from Survey Panel Providers encourage respondents to answer the survey by using personal email address and not by using their work email. This is to avoid impersonation or double-entry which is a common problem among survey panelists. Many times, there would be only one person on the panel who uses his or her work email and not the whole workforce. Thus, it would be easy for the others to impersonate that employee.

As a result, there would be no record of the online survey, even if the response rates are high. Thus, an employer using an online panel to assess the employee's skills will have no reliable data. The data from an online survey cannot be considered reliable if it is not captured as accurately as possible. Therefore, most of the online survey panel providers ask respondents to fill out a separate online survey after they have been invited to participate in a paid online survey.

There are many providers that use the closed-door sample frame which may be quite expensive. Some companies just pay respondents based on the number of survey questionnaires they filled out. Online survey panels offer the best value for money since the participants can answer them at their convenience. It is important for survey takers to understand that they would not receive any payment for answering these surveys. The providers also give incentives like cash vouchers and discounts when respondents sign up for their services.
